“This painting depicts the moment the Princess makes the decision to steal down into the tomb, alone, to wait for her beloved as he is sentenced to being entombed alive. An Egyptian lotus vase in the background symbolises General Radamès, while a Kerma pottery beaker and the gold she wears symbolise Aida’s status as a Princess of the Kingdom of Kush.”
